Srikanth Kandragula Urges Viewers to Support the Film, Not Let Scandal Eclipse Creative Work

Amid growing public attention on allegations leveled against actor Shine Tom Chacko, Soothravakyam producer Srikanth Kandragula has made a public appeal, urging viewers to support the Malayalam film without allowing the personal controversy to cloud the film’s creative vision.

The film found itself in the spotlight after actress Vincy Aloshious formally accused Shine Tom Chacko of misbehaviour and suspected drug use during the film’s production. Her complaint was lodged with both the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). While the reported incident took place on the sets of Soothravakyam, Kandragula made it clear that the creative work of an entire team should not be discredited due to the alleged conduct of one individual.

“We’ve poured our hearts and souls into this story, and I believe it has the power to connect deeply with audiences. It’s unfortunate that the headlines have shifted focus away from the film itself,” Kandragula stated. “As a producer, I want to make it clear that my commitment to this film and to every member of our team remains rock solid.”

Kandragula also acknowledged the complexity of the public’s emotional connection to celebrities but encouraged audiences to separate the art from the artist.

“I understand the concern and sensitivity around such issues. But I urge everyone to look at the film for what it is — a story crafted with love, talent, and tireless effort. Let us not let one individual’s alleged actions diminish the work of the entire team,” he emphasized.

Speaking about his connection to the project, Kandragula shared his admiration for Malayalam cinema. Although he is not a native of Kerala, he was deeply inspired by the industry’s strong storytelling and emotional narratives.

“Being part of Soothravakyam has been an incredible journey for me. Malayalam cinema has always inspired me — its honest narratives, layered characters, and the way it captures human emotions are what pulled me in. I’m honored to contribute to this tradition, and I hope viewers will give this film the fair chance it deserves,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the controversy continues to draw public scrutiny. Following Vincy Aloshious’ allegations, CCTV footage emerged showing Shine Tom Chacko allegedly escaping from a hotel during a narcotics raid conducted by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF). Although Chacko was previously acquitted in a 2015 drug case, Kerala Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh referred to that acquittal as the result of “a major lapse” in police procedures.

The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) lauded Vincy Aloshious for her courage in bringing the issue to light, reaffirming ongoing concerns about substance abuse and workplace safety in the Malayalam film industry.

Despite these developments, Kandragula remains hopeful that audiences will approach the film with an open mind and continue to support the work of the entire cast and crew.

“We’ve made this film with passion and sincerity. Your encouragement can make a difference — not just for the film, but for every artist, technician, and crew member who gave their all to bring it to life,” he concluded.

Soothravakyam is slated for release later this year.
